We were supposed to check out of the hostel at like 10:30 and I’ve started this sentence like we were massively late when in fact we were out by 10:36 so yeah considering I’m travelling with Jazz that’s like a record or something. We grabbed some cardboard from the Lidl next door and headed to the Clyde to write Carlisle on it.

  1. I have never hitch-hiked, but when I drove a company car in the 1970s, I did pick up (solo) hitch-hikers frequently. I was telling my boss about a soldier I gave a lift to one day, and he went ballistic. Apparently, hitch-hikers are not covered by insurance in company cars, only employees and spouses. He told me in no uncertain terms to never do that again. I never found out if he was telling me the truth.
    Best wishes, Pete.
